Enabling AI synonym search

Why AI Synonym?

It can sometimes be difficult for customers to find the right products in your store if they use different terms or spellings than what's in your store data.

For instance, a customer looking for "sneakers" may actually want "trainers" or "running shoes". Similarly, someone searching for "jumper" on a clothing site could be seeking "sweater" or "pullover".

Our Synonym Search feature now offers both Manual Synonym and AI Synonym capabilities to address this issue.

With Manual Synonym, you can create a robust library of synonyms that will ensure your customers can find the products they need, regardless of the terms they use.
We have also recently integrated an AI-powered Synonym feature that automatically detects and generates synonyms based on search usage patterns.
This AI can make associations between words and strengthen connections that lead to successful searches, eliminating the need for manual synonym configuration.

How AI Synonym works

By using Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms, our AI model can learn and understand synonyms based on various sources of data, including user search queries, search behaviors, and product data of the store.

By analyzing these data sources, our model can identify patterns and relationships between different search terms, processes various possible representations of a word to generate relevant synonyms. This approach enables us to bridge the gap between customer search queries and actual product data, resulting in more accurate and relevant search results.

Let's say you have a clothing store and a customer is looking for a specific type of shirt, but they don't know the exact name for it. They might search for "pink ladies tee," but your store doesn’t have relevant products for that search term.

With the AI Synonym feature, the system would recognize that "ladies" and "women", “tee” and “shirt” are related in meaning and that they can be used interchangeably in this context.

The AI would then suggest "women pink shirt" as a synonym for "pink ladies tee," even though the customer did not use that specific term in their search.

This would help the customer find the product they are looking for, even if they used a different term than what's in your store data.

Manage list of AI Synonyms

From the app admin, go to Search > Synonyms > Select AI synonyms tab.

The “AI Synonyms” tab shows all synonyms that our AI model has detected and generated based on user search queries, search behaviors, and product data from each store.

The total number of synonyms is displayed on the left side, below the search bar.

Confidence score measures how certain the AI suggests a synonym (on a scale of 0 to 100). For instance, any suggestion with a score of 80 is likely to be an excellent synonym.

Quickly search for a synonym

You can easily search for a synonym by entering search terms and synonyms. The search bar is located at the top of the synonym listing page.

Sort and Filter synonyms

You can quickly filter the synonyms based on status (Enabled, Disabled), and sort by 3 options: Sort by most confidence; Sort by most recent, Sort by alphabetical.

Disable / Enable a synonym

Toggle the Status button of any set of synonyms that you want to enable and disable.

By disabling a synonym, it will be removed from the list of suggested synonyms and will not be used for search queries.

Delete synonym

Click on the Delete icon if you want to totally remove the synonym from the app.
