📖 When setting up your filter trees, you may encounter some common issues. We will address some of them in the sections below.

Why can’t I find the desired filter option when I set up my filter trees?

After you have synced data from your Shopify store into Boost AI Search & Discovery, our app allows you to create up to 30 filter options in each filter tree based on corresponding product attributes from your store.

If some filter options do not show up in the drop-down of Option Type, there can exist some potential reasons:

  • Your store’s products do not contain the desired attributes for you to add to the filter trees. For instance, when there is no Color filter option in the drop-down of Option Type, your products might not contain the "Color" product option. In this case, you should check your product’s details, provide the necessary values to the corresponding attributes, and re-sync your store’s data with our app.
  • The desired filter values can be in non-default formats. In this case, you can consider creating filter options by using product tags and Metafields.
  • There might be errors while your store is in sync with our app. In this case, you can decide to wait for an auto-sync, which automatically runs every ten minutes to check and update any modification you have made to your store, or you can sync recent updates by visiting this article.

Why don’t some product filters work after I change my Shopify theme?

You most likely have not set up our app on that theme.

Before publishing a theme from Shopify’s Online Store, there are a few steps you need to do to have our filtering solutions configured on your theme:


Which conditional statement does your filter option support?

By default, all filters within Boost are subject to the OR condition. That means when at least one chosen filter value is satisfied, the filter results will be displayed.

Additionally, when setting tag and multi-level tags filter options, you can enable the AND condition in the Advanced section on the Edit filter option page. Selecting this condition will display all products that have all selected tags matched.


Can I import and export my filter trees?

Unfortunately, our app does not support importing or exporting filter trees to common file formats. However, all filter tree data of your store will be reserved and protected when you uninstall the app. When you return to Boost, you won’t have to spend much time configuring your filter trees and settings.

Why is my filter not displayed properly?

Expired trial or exceeded plan

We offer a free 14-day trial which allows you to test all features of Boost AI Search & Discovery. After your trial ends, Boost will pause your store’s data synchronization and restrict our filter feature down to one filter tree with only one filter option.

Similarly, when you have more products than the number of products that your current monthly plan allows, your storefront will show only one filter option on each filter tree.

Blank filter tree

When you associate a collection with an empty Custom filter tree (no filter option), no filter tree will be displayed on that collection page. The Default filter tree cannot take over a collection-associated Custom filter tree. To understand more about all filter trees that our app can provide, you can check this article out.

Wrong Theme Template

Our filter trees only work properly on the Default collection of Theme Template. In case you set up another template, kindly note that you are required to manually set it up. If you are non-tech savvy, please contact us at support@boostcommerce.net for further support.

Accidentally disabled the filter tree

You might have disabled the filter tree by accident.

  • To enable and disable a filter tree:
  1. From the app’s dashboard, go to FilterManage filter trees.
  2. Toggle the Status button, from gray to green, of the filter tree that you want to enable or disable.

When you associate a collection with a filter tree whose filter options are all disabled, you will not see any filters on your storefront. Have a thorough check of the assigned filter tree and enable its filter options when needed.

  • To enable and disable a filter option in a filter tree:
  1. From the app’s dashboard, go to Filter  > Manage filter trees.
  2. Click the filter tree that you want to enable its filter options.
  3. Toggle the Status button, from gray to green, of the filter option that you want to enable or disable.
  4. Click Save on the Filter Options page.

Not setting up the app on your current theme

Once you are sure that you have set up and associated valid filter trees to your collections, the main culprit seems to be that you might have not set up the app on your current theme.

Why are some filter values missing?

You may notice that the filter values are not fully displayed on your storefront. Filter values can be missing for some reasons:

  • Scenario 1: The filter values do not exist on any product details pages. In this case, you can recheck all your products and make sure that you have added the necessary information to their product details pages.
  • Scenario 2: The products, that contain the missing filter values, are not in the collection to which you have assigned the filter tree. In this case, make sure that the product containing the corresponding filter values is properly added to the proper collections.
  • Scenario 3: Values, that are not displayed, may have been merged. Keep in mind that merged values will replace the old values and therefore cannot be displayed in your filters.
  • Scenario 4: Products with that filter value are in draft mode. To change its status to active, you can follow this guide.
  • Scenario 5: Products with that filter value are out of stock and you have selected Hide out-of-stock product/variant in Filter settings from our app’s admin.
  • Scenario 6: The quantity of the products/variants that contain missing filter values is zero. When you do not select Show all irrelevant values (product count = 0) in the Filter settings, the products, and the corresponding filter values will not be displayed in your filter trees.
  • Scenario 7: When a filter option has only one filter value and you have selected Hide filter options with only one filter option value in the Filter settings, then you can't see the filter value as well as the filter option containing it.
  • Scenario 8: The missing filter values have been set to be excluded from the filter tree. In this case, you can check your filter option settings just in case you have added missing filter values to the Excluded values section.
  • Scenario 9: When setting up filter options, double-check the products that are added manually. If you don't find the desired filter value, you may have not added that missing filter value.

💡 When entering each value manually, what you enter must be identical to the corresponding information on the product details pages. For example, on product details pages, a value is assigned as Swimwear. When adding values manually, entering swimwear can cause the omission of the filter value.

  • Scenario 10: When the product containing this value is hidden due to Product Visibility, the matching values will not show up in the filter results. You can learn more about Product visibility by checking out this video.
  • Scenario 11: Filter options are wrongly encrypted. Our app establishes a filter tree by inputting product attributes in the store. When the filter option you select in the drop-down of Option type is different from the product attribute on the product details page, this filter option can’t crawl its corresponding filter values.

For example, you may want to create a Color filter option, but you assign color values to the Colour product attribute. As a result, the color values are missing from the filter tree. In this case, you can edit the product attribute name to match the specified text in the Option type drop-down of Boost AI Search & Discovery.
